Bouche Red
The Boucherouite Rug- Colourful Moroccan Art from Recycled Textiles
Moroccan weavers use recycled materials, strips, and rags to create their Boucherouite rugs. They mix these with a wide variety of worn-out clothing and textile materials (wool, cotton, synthetic fibers, lurex, nylon, etc.) to define the dominant colors of their Boucherouite carpets. The design process is then very spontaneous and representative of the memory and past of the Berber woman. Boucherouite rugs can be an explosion of bright and warm colors, as well as a softer expression of the weaver’s sensitivity, with more muted tones. These rugs do not imitate or reproduce elements of the surrounding nature, but rather emotions and feelings. It is a more abstract artistic expression that nonetheless results in an often orderly, vibrant, and colorful ensemble. The Boucherouite rug is a marvel of Berber art, remarkable for its authenticity as well as its aesthetics.
