The Azilal rug: Vibrant Berber Aristry from the Moroccan Highland

The Azilal rug is a Berber rug made from wool from sheep raised in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The colors are either wool or cotton. Its pile is approximately 2.5 cm thick, making it very comfortable rug in an interior.

Azilal rugs are handmade, like all other Berber rugs. This is a specific skill of Berber women from various tribes in Morocco. Through traditional Moroccan weaving, women create Oriental rugs for domestic use, with freedom in terms of shapes and colors. These female weavers fully follow their ideas and intuitions: no two Azilal rugs are alike.

Azilal rugs are works in which rural women tell their story, from marriage to motherhood, including births and everyday life. To do this, they borrow tribal symbols from their ancestors.

It is a unique, rare, and sought-after model. Whether used to dress a wall or cover the floor, it is a prime choice for decoration
